The American eclipse

Let’s take a look at the “American” eclipse, so named because it occurs primarily over the American continent. To be more specific, it will reach its maximum visibility in Dallas, around 90% visibility in New York and Washington. It will barely touch the northwest Europe, with visibility around 40% in Iceland, imperceptible in Scotland, and along the coast of Portugal. Visibility is crucial because, according to Ptolemy and other Renaissance/early modern authors, an eclipse only influences the places where it is visible.

Ptolemy is not the only author connecting tangible effects to the visibility but it was already present in Babylon. A precept attributed to Petosiris states: “The indications hold true if the eclipse is total, but they are partially valid if the eclipse is partial, and effective only for the places where it is visible.”

Therefore, I would exclude all locations where the eclipse is not visible, including Italy. Astrological chorography doesn’t help us much since obviously we don’t know which is the planet or sign ruling America. Ptolemy, like other astrologers, didn’t simply divide the Earth into four portions; his attributions are linked to the characteristics of the peoples.

The sign of Aries, where the eclipse occurs, is associated with North West Europe, even though the eclipse is almost invisible there. Traditionally, Aries also rules Palestine, but it is far SOOOO from the eclipse….

I would focus primarily on the American continent, especially because im fact all planets culminate over the American continent. The malefics Saturn and Mars– they will be together in the same degree a couple of days after the eclipse – cross the Pacific coast, over San Francisco and Los Angeles. Jupiter, on the other hand, aligns with the Atlantic coast, over Washington and New York.

Regarding the timing of effects, the Ptolemaic/Renaissance/early modern doctrine doesn’t consider immediate effects—the eclipse chart does not produce instantaneous influence. In the chart for Washington, the political heart of United States, where the eclipse is close to 90% visibility, the syzygy falls in the ninth house. Therefore, the effects will be gradual, starting from October–November 2024,  coinciding with the presidential elections, but more significantly from the summer 2025.

The eclipse ruler is Mars, which has rights over both the syzygy  in Aries and the MC (in Taurus in fact Mars has the participating triplicity).

Eclipse effects are generally considered inauspicious. In particular, this eclipse falls on the degree of the Sun’s exaltation and likely relates to power and governance. Notably, William Lilly stated: “An eclipse in the second decan of Aries brings pains and dangers of death for the ruler.”

As others have already mentioned, I agree that this eclipse could influence Vice President Kamala Harris. Born under a full Moon, she has the opposition between the Sun and Moon between 27 degrees Aries and 27 degrees Libra, not far from the eclipse degree.

Screenshot_3From what I’ve read, Harris isn’t very popular within the Democratic Party, but her potential candidacy for the presidency cannot be ruled out, especially because of President Biden’s age. We’ll see how things unfold after the summer when the eclipse begins to produce effects. 🌒🌕🌘
